Introduction - Genesis GV60 Electric SUV

The Genesis brand is relatively new and was founded in 2015 and launched its Europe arm in 2021. This South Korean manufacturer owned by Hyundai produces high-quality, luxury vehicles with premium interiors and modern designs. Genesis has a keen eye for customer service and offers a 5-year care Plan that includes a warranty, roadside assistance, digital updates and all scheduled servicing. Genesis also includes a courtesy car whilst yours is being serviced which is unheard of in the car industry, but more on this later.

Here at DreamLease, we are really excited about this new innovative brand and we offer a wide range of Genesis Leases from the all-electric Gv60 to the 7-seat Gv80.

Meet The Genesis GV60

The Genesis GV60 is a compact, all-electric, 5-door SUV and the smallest vehicle in the Genesis range. It has modern body styling, an impressive electric range, and a high-quality luxurious interior.

The GV60 is available in three derivatives, the Premium, Sport and Sport Plus with all boasting a large 77.4kWh battery pack.

All cars also include an industry-leading charging capability with a 350kw Ultra-Rapid Charger. This has the potential of charging from 10% to 80% in an astonishing 18 minutes.

Let's take a look at each available model.

GV60 Premium

The Premium and entry-level version of the GV60 is far from average and offers a rear-wheel drive setup with a powerful 168kw (226bhp) single motor and an exceptional estimated range of 321miles. The Premium comes with 19” aerodynamic alloy wheels and an obsidian black artificial leather interior with beautiful quilted Nappa Leather offered as an optional extra. Other optional extras include a stunning panoramic roof, innovation tech pack, comfort seat packs, and a Bang & Olufsen Audio System. All in all the GV60 Premium offers the most extensive electric range and the same excellent design making it a great choice.

GV60 Sport

With the Sport edition, the single motor setup is replaced with an All-Wheel-Drive, dual motor setup with a 160 kW motor powering the rear wheels and a 74 kW motor powering the front wheels. This additional power surprisingly only reduces the estimated total range to 292miles. The Sport also includes 20” layered alloy wheels as standard. Overall the GV60 Sport Edition stands out from the crowd and whilst delivering additional power, a great electric range for a competitive price.

GV60 Sport Plus

The Sport Plus is the crown jewel of the GV60 lineup and includes an AWD system but with even more power with 180 kWs powering both the front and rear wheels via two powerful electric motors. The performance-focused Sport Plus also comes with boost mode which will propel you to 60mph in an exhilarating 4 seconds. The Plus also comes with quilted Nappa Leather and  21” alloy wheels as standard. In our view, the GV60 Sport Plus doesn’t compete with cars such as the Cupra Born and VW ID.5. It is competing with the higher-end, luxury brands and with cars such as Jaguar I-Pace, the Mercedes EQC and Audi E-Tron.

GV60 Styling

As always the styling of all cars is extremely subjective especially quirky ones like the GV60. Genesis was extremely kind to lend DreamLease a GV60 and after playing with the new remote parking feature in our car park, very 007, the conversation quickly moved on to the exterior styling. Overall the team enjoyed the minimalistic design and lines with some preferring the rear design over the front profile. The GV60s design definitely stands out in an extremely competitive market and we look forward to seeing more on the UK roads.

Range, Charging & Batteries

As discussed above all the GV60 models have a 77kw battery pack and an estimated range of between 289 and 321miles. It can be charged with standard chargers, rapid chargers and super-rapid chargers up to a massive 350kw. To put this into perspective a Tesla can only charge up to 250kw. Although you are unlikely to come across a 350kw charger in the UK as they are few and far between, it's nice to know that the GV60 is future-proof in this regard. For a better idea of real-world charging Genesis estimates that a DC Fast Charging Station (50 kW) will charge from 10% to 80% in a little over one hour. Overall this is competitive with other brands and looks to be even faster than the likes of Audi when similar figures are compared.

It's also worth noting that the impressive Genesis warranty covers the batteries for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Please see the Genesis website for full Terms and Conditions.

Performance, Ride and Handling

The EV60 has an excellent firm suspension setup with low body roll for its stature. On the road, this translates to a dynamic and sporty driving experience and is very positive on turn-in. The EV60 is a joy to drive down a country road whilst remaining comfortable and silky smooth on a motorway run. Overall the EV60 drives beautifully and competes due to its balance. It's not too hard and it's not too soft, it's just right.

All the EV60s are inherently quick when compared to most non-electric vehicles. Both the instant torque and unbroken acceleration are guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face. Although understandably not as quick as some missiles such as the E-Tron GT and Tesla Model 3 the GV60 still provides rapid acceleration. The top-spec Sport Plus comes with a 10-second boost button that offers maximum power which we really enjoyed. Overall the range has enough power for most people but if your heart is set on being pinned to the beautiful seats then the top-spec Sport Plus is the model for you.

GV60 Interior

The interior of the GV60 is maybe the most surprising aspect of this new EV. The quality, detail and aesthetics of this interior blow us away. All the touch points are extremely tactile from the vent switch gear to the plush leather steering wheel and with almost no plastic in reach. The floating centre console includes a futuristic spinning crystal sphere gear selector which is a nice touch and houses additional switch gear and practical cup holders.

Genesis has gone all out with this interior and here at DreamLease we especially liked the ventilated seats. These seats can be added with the Comfort Seat Pack costing an extra £2790. This may sound a lot but these seats really elevated the driving experience and in our view are definitely worth the extra money. This pack also includes a heated steering wheel, ergo motion seats which hug you as speed increases, heated front seats, ambient lighting and much more.

Overall the GV60 has an incredible plush interior for its price point rivalling those of Range Rover, Jaguar and even Bently. We strongly suggest viewing this interior in the real. Our first interaction with the brand was in Westfield London at their beautifully designed studio. The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable about the vehicles and could not do enough to help us explore this new electric car. This location is open 7 days a week, click here to view the Genesis studio and showroom.

Design

The Genesis GV60 was designed by Jung Myung Jin and shares the Hyundai E-GMP platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 as well as the Kia EV6. The GV60 features a single-piece clamshell bonnet, flush door handles and Quad-LED lights with some models including digital side mirrors and a large panoramic glass roof. This year the GV60 won the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design in the cars and motorcycles category and has set the stage for what this new brand is capable of. Even if this model is not to your specific aesthetic taste you must see the quality within the design. We are anticipating some great things from Genesis in the future and can’t wait to see which path they take.

Safety

The GV60 is simply packed full of safety features including smart cruise control, collision avoidance assist, parking sensors and a rearview camera. Additionally, you can add the digital side mirror which includes larger screens when compared to other brands.

Practicality

The GV60 has a good elevated driving position with a great view of the road. It is effortless to get in and out of and once seated very easy to get comfortable with the electronic adjustment. Visibility out the back window is good with the rear camera assisting in tight situations. Unfortunately, boot space isn’t the largest in class. In fact, it is 18% smaller than the Hyundai Ioniq 5, however, the rear seats fold down if a larger load is required. Overall we found that space in the GV60 is adequate and don't forget that extra space under the front bonnet.

Manufacturer Service

Once you’ve leased your new car, you will be allocated your very own Genesis Personal Assistant (GPA) who will be there to manage the complete ownership experience. This all starts off when your new car is delivered to you by a Genesis Branded covered vehicle with your GPA on hand to give you the full guided tour of how all the features work. Once you’ve taken delivery, you can then call your GPA at any point for further pointers, to organise any maintenance required and to arrange a courtesy vehicle if your car were to ever be out of action. Genesis understands that your time is valuable so when your car is due a service, your GPA will organize for an equivalent or better specification Genesis to be delivered to you. They will also collect your car at the same to time ensure you are never inconvenienced. You will also be given a complimentary 5-year care package which will include all routine servicing, manufacturer's warranty, roadside assistance and digital updates. Yes, Genesis might be owned by the parent company and successful automotive brand Hyundai but this is far from a re-badged Hyundai - This is a true luxury automotive brand that has positioned itself to offer a true luxury experience like no other.

Alternative Leases

With the EV Compact SUV market growing at unprecedented rates there are of course many cars to choose from. The VW ID5, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Skoda Enyaq and Nissan Ariya are all great cars to name only a few. However, we strongly suggest taking a look at the Genesis GV60 Leases as the outstanding interior and incredible electric range set it apart from the rest.

The Verdict

Overall the Genesis GV60 is an extremely well-built and well-thought-out electric vehicle. Although the boot space is a little smaller than competitors and the styling may not suit everyone's taste, the mechanics, range, interior and charging capabilities make this a serious contender. On top of this, you get one of the best if not the best warranty and service plans on the market as standard.

Genesis is confident and so they should be. Let's not forget that in 1997 Hyundai only sold around 150,000 units in Europe. Nowadays Hyundai is consistently now selling over 500,000 units. This is a growth of 233% with 2022 looking to be another record year. To put this into perspective the most cars BMW has ever sold in Europe in one year is 823,000 and in pre-pandemic 2017. It's possible that Genesis could follow Hyundai’s success and continue to take market share from the likes of Peugeot, Audi, BMW and Nissan who have all seen a loss in sales in recent years.

All we know for sure is the Genesis GV60 doesn't just compete with the competition it surpassed them in many areas. DreamLease thoroughly enjoyed driving and testing this vehicle and if you would like to explore leasing a GV60 click below or call our specialist leasing team on 01494 424242.
